I am a family physician at the University Health Centre, where we see (only) University of Alberta students and staff. UHC has three physicians (including myself) who have done training in and have experience with gender-affirming care for adults. We also have multiple physicians who can prescribe Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), myself included.
Eligible patients from the U of A can drop-in to see Dr. Durand or Dr. Mortera. I typically take referrals from other UHC physicians or other U of A health care providers to see patients, as I spend some of my time in an administrative role helping to ensure our clinic provides welcoming and appropriate care. All of our UHC team members strive to be gender-affirming in our processes and practices. I am also striving to be neurodiversity-affirming and inclusive for all our patients.
(note that any “new clients” must be University of Alberta students or staff)
I am a member of WPATH and have done multiple trainings through their Global Education Institute, and I have also done trainings via Rainbow Health Ontario and Trans Care BC/UBC CPD. I was also a member of the working group that developed the Alberta Towards Optimized Practice (TOP) guidelines on “Transgender Health in Primary Care” in 2019. I am also the parent of a transgender teen.
